CITY of York Athletic Club's Josh Dickinson was crowned under-15s boys' champion after round three of the West Yorkshire Cross Country League at Cleckheaton.

Dickinson won the race to retain his title, while club-mate Angus McMillan took the U17s boys' honours for a second race running.

The pair headed up a strong York turn-out, which meant the club had two wins and two second places in the team events.

Exerting pressure from the start, Dickinson was always in control and sealed a third victory in three races and the title by around 100 metres.

Good runs by Finnian Hutchinson in third and Toby Antcliff in seventh sealed the U15 boys' team event for City of York.

McMillan slowly pulled away from his rivals to claim an impressive U17s win.

However, because he missed the opening race in the series, he needs to compete in the last round at Keighley on December 4 to have a chance of winning the overall title.

Maurice Carlton-Seal (fourth) wisely had enough daylight in the closing stages to hold off the fast sprint finish from 800-metre specialist Alex Botterill (fifth) as the club won their second team title of the afternoon.

In the other junior races, Lottie Langan’s third place led the club to second in the U11s girls' team event, while a fall cost Elliott Seymour his 100 per cent record in the U11s boys' race as he came third.

The only other City of York junior to place in the top ten was Martha Carlton-Seal, who came third in the U15s girls' race.

York's senior men had their best team finish in the league for many years by coming second.

Josh Schofield had a fine run to lead the club home in sixth place, with York University student George Cook enjoying a great debut for the club to finish ninth.

Good packing then saw all the remaining team counters finish well inside the top 50.

The senior women could not quite match their male counterparts as Charlotte Mason in 11th place led them home for eighth in the team standings.
