BOOTHAM A moved top of the York Conservative Clubs Carlsberg UK Snooker League – despite losing 4-3 to Heworth A in extraordinary circumstances.

Heworth gave them three points start as they could only muster four players but, despite this, Heworth won all four frames played.

Nick Dyson got Heworth off and running by winning the first frame against Tim Fillingham, making breaks of 22 and 20. Mark Hodgson then defeated Rob Barron, and that was followed by Heworth's captain Steve Burdett overcoming Andy Wynn.

Clive Whyte was in tremendous form, making breaks of 55 and 24 in beating Colin Robinson.

Acomb A are starting to find form as they defeated Bootham B 5-2 to move up the table.

Dan Potter made the league's highest break of 70 as he defeated Chris Thompson before Ian Robinson levelled the match when he beat Paul Holmes.

Wins for Keith Thornhill over P Stewart, and Nick Marchant against Matt Smith, put Acomb 3-1 up.

Paul Mahoney made it 3-2 as he beat Roland Cox, but Jon Milner overcame Paul Powell and Mick Borg defeated Lionel Barnes to give Acomb victory.

Malton had a 6-1 win over Heworth B. Their only player to lose was the unfortunate Roger Ward, who despite making a 48 break could not pull back the handicap difference over Heworth's Andi Ireland.

His team-mates made up for this as they won the rest of the frames with Alan Sherry beating John Sherlock, Chris Atkinson beating Ian Strickland, Steve Beal defeating Andy Hurley, and Dan Pawson overcoming Martin Johnson.

This was followed by Dominic Spiteri beating Pete Henderson, and Malton's captain Phil Hart making a 40 break in his win over Simon Whiteley.

Fulford B lost their second place in the league as they went down 5-2 to Acomb B despite taking the first two frames.

Dean Smith and Phil Cook won for Fulford when they beat Chris Nicholson and Andy Morgan, but Kevin Ventress started Acomb's fight-back, just getting home on the black as he saw off Bob Smith.

Brian Henry won – to make it six in a row – easily beating Fabian Sueess. Further wins for Steve Rodgers over Lee Elvidge, Andy Stone against Dave Coggan, and Jeff Winter over Dave Reed completed Acomb's comeback.
