CITY of York Athletic Club’s under-20s men were their leading performers in the National Cross-Country Relays at Mansfield.

Their trio of Tyler Hutchinson, Josh Schofield and Declan Neary finished 23rd, which was the best of the club’s four teams in action.

Schofield completed the 3km course in nine minutes eight seconds on leg two, with Hutchinson (9-40) and Neary (9-24) putting in solid showings on the first and third legs respectively.

Angus McMillan (9-18) brought City of York home in 13th place on a competitive opening leg of the under-17 boys’ event.

Luca Parker (10-18) and Elliott Hutchinson (11-08), although not able to maintain this lofty position, ran well to bring the club home in 43rd.

City of York’s senior women finished 42nd, with Charlotte Mason (10-56) impressing in the opening 3km leg.

Their senior men came home 86th, led off by Dan Cheeseman’s 16-17 on leg one of the 5km course.

Mason used her cross-country efforts as a warm-up for Sunday’s Leeds Abbey Dash 10K.

Here she ran a personal best time of 37-01 to set a new club record, but such was the standard on show she was only the 39th lady home.

York University’s Liam Medley also ran a PB in 34-40.

* CITY of York Athletic Club’s Josh Dickinson was edged out for victory in round one of the British Cross Challenge at Milton Keynes.

Dickinson finished runner-up by just one second to Hamish Armitt (Giffnock North) in the under 15 boys’ race.

Having led the field for much of the 4.42km course, Dickinson was out-kicked by Armitt, who clocked 14mins 25secs to the York runner’s 14.26.

Meanwhile, Stephen Kirk was City of York’s leading runner at the Dalby Dash where he finished seventh in 36.12.

Norwegian student Madeline Larsen was the first women home from the club in 45.44 on her debut.

Club-mate Josh Schofield was the first finisher in the York Parkrun in a personal best 15.50, coming home 400 metres ahead of the field.

Fourteen-year old Millie Anderson was also impressive as she was the first female finisher in 20.59.

The following day, Elliott Seymour took first place in the 2k junior version in 7.28, a time that has only been beaten by one runner since the event started.
