CAWOOD pulled out all the stops at Alne & Tollerton 2 in their final match of the Tyke Petroleum Men’s Tennis League - but to no avail.
The third-placed division six side needed to better by four points promotion rivals Boston Spa 2’s score in their inter-divisional final fixture in order to nick the runners-up spot.
Losing just one rubber, Cawood battled harder than they had anticipated to snatch 9½ points.
However, having already sealed promotion from division seven, Sutton-on-Derwent 2 were happy to concede their final match, gifting Boston Spa 7½ points and the second division six promotion spot.
Boston Spa 2 will play in division five next season.
Jim Holding and Jim Bloom were the last top guns of the season with an impressive 3-30 for Pocklington in the inter-divisional tie at Wigginton 4.
