FULFORD 'B' extended their impressive start to the season with a 5-2 win over Heworth 'A' in the York Conservative Clubs Carlsberg UK League.

Phil Cook led the way with a black ball victory over Jordan Worobec before Kevin Gall beat Dave Coggan to level the match. Neil Wood scored a 40 break as he defeated Bob Smith.

Fulford then took the last four frames with wins for Tristan Owen over Steve Burdett, Chris Fennel (52 break) against Mark Hodgson, and Dave Reed over Keith Watkinson.

Acomb 'A' returned with a 4-3 win from their trip to Fulford 'A'. Dan Potter got them off to a great start with a 51 break against Dave Atkin and was always in control of the frame.

Sam Parkinson and Tom Lewis (27 and 30 breaks) hit back for Fulford, defeating Keith Thornhill and Nick Marchant. Jon Milner (36) levelled the match beating Glen Mountain. Paul Holmes overcame Sam England to put Acomb 3-2 ahead before Pete Dunmore levelled by beating Phil Carlton on the black.

Mick Borg cleared up the colours for a 27 break to clinched victory for Acomb against Alan Reed.

Bootham 'B' ran out 5-2 victors over Heworth 'B' with wins for Paul Mahoney against Martin Johnson, Ian Robinson against Andy Ogley, Chris Thompson against Ian Strickland, Matt Smith over Andi Ireland and Paul Powell(33) against Pete Henderson. Heworth's points came from John Sherlock over P Stewart and Simon Whiteley over Lionel Barnes.

Bootham 'A' maintained their lead at the top of the table as - even with only six players - they beat Malton 5-2. Colin Robinson extended his winning streak by defeating Roger Ward. The other winners for Bootham were Rob Barron, Andy Wynn, Jeff Brown and Barry Rankin who beat Alan Sherry, Dominic Spiteri, Phil Hart and Dan Pawson respectively. Colin Atkinson was Malton's only winner as he got the better of Tim Fillingham.

Fulford 'A' won 4-3 in a re-arranged game against Heworth 'A' despite going 2-0 down when Gary Douglas beat Dave Atkin and Kevin Gall beat Sam Parkinson. Wins for Tom Lewis over Marcus Hudson, Dollin Mercer against Mark Winskill, Sam England over Keith Watkinson, and a walk-over saw Fulford home. Clive Whyte won the last frame for Heworth beating Glen Mountain.

There was one match played in the Billiards League as Acomb squeezed home by 705-698 on the aggregate score over Bootham and by 3-2 on frames.

Mick Borg got Acomb off to a good start making a 38 break as he defeated Tim Fillingham. Bootham's Ian Robinson squared the match taking the next frame 150-120 against John Ashwell.

Richard Lillie and Matt Smith had a very tight frame but, with Smith leading 148-140, Lillie fought back to win 150-148 giving Acomb the lead. Paul Mahoney levelled the match when he beat Trevor Ventress 150-135.

The deciding frame saw Bootham's Colin Robinson well in front and holding a commanding lead but opponent Paul Holmes closed the gap and eventually won 150-148.

Acomb's Jeff Winter beat Fulford's Tom Lewis to win the Les Hawkins Memorial Trophy final at Bootham Club.

There was a lot of defensive play early on in the final with Winter making a 19 break to lead 35-21. Lewis fought back and took a 36-35 lead but Winter finished the match off with an 18 break to win 55-36.

In the semi-finals, Winter beat Heworth's Clive Whyte who, giving a 30 start to his opponent, found the task too much especially after a 29 break put Winter 60-8 ahead. He then proceeded to pick off the remaining reds with colours to finish the match 91-16. The representative from Malton failed to attend in the other semifinal so Lewis got a bye to the final.

The trophy and awards were presented to the players by Bootham member Colin Robinson on behalf of the Club.
