CITY of York Ladies are still without a point in the North Hockey Women’s League premier division after a 5-2 home defeat against Kirkby Stephen this weekend.

Despite a hard-fought first half, York were unlucky to be 3-0 down at half-time after scrappy goals from the visitors.

However, York scored within five minutes of the restart thanks to a powerful strike from Lindsey O’Brien.

Another strike from Naomi Harkness eased the pain slightly for York but it was not enough to get back into the game.

York Ladies III lost 4-3 at home to Chapeltown I in the Yorkshire Women’s Hockey League premier division.

The hosts started strongly and took control from the outset. Great passing from Becky Hall, Jo Perryman and Steph Pearson put the pressure on the visitors.

Two goals from Pearson put York 2-0 up but a lapse in concentration and a loss of shape allowed the visitors to storm back into a 4-2 lead.

Perryman reduced the deficit from a penalty corner but it was too little too late. Alice Birchall was named player of the match.

York IV were beaten 5-1 by Huddersfield Dragons II in division one. Abby Collins found the net.

York travelled to Leeds Adel in the second round of the over-35s National Cup.

They took control from the start with player of the match, Lorraine Pearey, impressive.

Great passing from stick to stick saw Eluned Smith and Vicky Skilton moving the ball at pace to Maggie Pimley and Anabelle Howells-Lee in attack.

After several unsuccessful attempts on goal, Pimley found Skilton in the D who smashed the ball home.

A Howells-Lee pass found Skilton again and a push on the ball found it rolling into the goal.

A short corner from Jo Perryman led to Smith putting York 3-0 up before the interval.

York picked up the pace and Smith completed a 4-0 win with a goal from a short corner.
