ACOMB men’s hockey team finally picked up their first points of the season in Yorkshire League Division Two.

Goals from Matt Dickenson (2) and Jamie Robinson secured a 3-2 home win against third-placed Lindum 3 at the Energise Sports Centre.

It had taken six games for the team to finally get off the mark and Robinson’s winner – three minutes from the final whistle – sparked scenes of wild celebration!

Dickenson had put Acomb ahead with a penalty corner from the first attack of the game before Lindum hit back with two goals in the space of 10 minutes to take the lead.

Dickenson then levelled from another penalty corner before the interval and Acomb had several chances to take the lead.

Both Ryan Forster and Nick Linfoot spurned good opportunities before Robinson bagged the winner.

Tadcaster Magnets I are still six points above Acomb after a 2-1 home win against Wakefield III.

Acomb II, meanwhile, extended their unbeaten record in division five north with a 1-0 away victory at Leodis Leeds I.

Goalkeeper Martin Grainge made a superb save to prevent the hosts taking the lead in the first half as the game swung from end-to-end.

In an impressive overall team performance, the Tangerines maintained tight control in midfield until, with seven minutes to play, Tom Brown netted to keep the club in third spot.

Tadcaster Magnets II, however, are now hot on their heels in fourth spot after knocking ELEVEN goals past neighbours Boston Spa III without reply.

It is now four wins out of five for the Magnets II, who are fourth and only three points behind leaders Halifax III.

In Yorkshire Ladies Hockey League division one, second-placed Tadcaster Magnets I kept the pressure on leaders Ben Rhydding III with a 2-0 victory over Slazengers II.

Acomb I failed to win for the first time this season but are still unbeaten and top of the table following a 2-2 draw at Wakefield Wanderers I in division two.

All four goals came in the first period.

The home side, which was speedy in the forward line, took the lead after eight minutes but the Tangerines stuck back immediately through Jenna Allinson.

Wakefield regained the lead when a deflected shot looped over goalkeeper Stephanie Barker but Kerry Woods equalised for Acomb from a penalty corner.

In a level second half, the Tangerines had the better opportunities with Sian Klukauski driving the visitors forward – but chances fell to youngsters Hannah Yoward and Kiera Woods and went astray.

The Tangerines also went down to 10 players but maintained control without finding a winner.

Tadcaster Magnets II suffered a 1-0 defeat at Halifax IV in division five north.

The team has now slipped to fourth in the table after a run of three games without a win.
