GREAT Britain tennis star Kyle Edmund has hit a career-high ranking following his exploits at the US Open.

The 21-year-old from Beverley has surged up to 55th spot, from 84th, in the new ATP ranking list published this week and will now be hoping to crack the top 50 for the first time during the closing months of the season.

The former Pocklington School pupil reached the fourth round in New York with victories over 13th seed Richard Gasquet and 20th seed John Isner to add to his burgeoning CV.

And Edmund's fine run was eventually ended by world number one Novak Djokovic.

Fellow Brit Dan Evans reached the third round at Flushing Meadows and sits two places ahead of Edmund in the rankings, in 53rd spot, after a similarly impressive rise.

Both men are already in Glasgow as part of GB's squad for the Davis Cup semi-final against Argentina, which starts tomorrow.
