FORMER York City Rowing Club ace Tom Ransley is hoping everybody “shouts loudly at the telly” as he aims to help Team GB take Olympic gold in Rio today.
Ransley is part of the men’s eights team that finished as the fastest qualifiers for this afternoon’s final, which will bring the Games’ rowing competitions to a close at Lagoa.
Germany also won straight through to the final, which saw Poland, Holland, New Zealand and USA make the field through the repechages.
The Dutch and New Zealand crews placed second and third respectively in Team GB’s semi-final, but Ransley is taking nothing for granted as he looks to improve on his bronze with the eights during London 2012.
Talking exclusively to The Press from Brazil, ahead of the 3.27pm race, Ransley said: “There certainly isn't any complacency amongst the team.
“The eights event is very competitive and I am sure the final will be a well-fought and close race. I expect the grandstand spectators will have a good show and I hope everyone back home is enjoying watching the rowing and shouts loudly at the telly.”
