A DOMINANT display saw City of York Athletic Club seal the Northern League division two east title at Middlesbrough.

York won round four by more than 100 match points to ensure a first-place finish in the track and field league.

Having topped the table with 22 points out of possible 24, they now face a promotion play-off at Doncaster on August 20 where a place in division one will be at stake.

York entered the final round with a one league point lead over Gateshead Harriers, so knew any sort of victory would see them take the crown.

However, they produced their best performance of the season to wrap up the title in some style.

Indeed, the final event of the day saw York's men's 4x400-metre team come within two seconds of the club record as they won by more than 100 metres.

The quartet of Tom Roberts, Declan Neary, Alex Botterill and Rob Shipley clocked three minutes 24 seconds to storm home.

York's opponents in the play-off will be Hull, Blackburn Harriers, Wigan & District Harriers, Blackpool, Wyre & Fyle and Rotherham Harriers, where a top-two finish will secure promotion.
