POPPLETON retained the division one title in the IT Sports Mixed Tennis League after beating York 1.

Nick and Rebecca Turnbull won 33 games to remain unbeaten all year.

Dunnington are the favourites to take runners-up spot after a good win at Fulford sealed by Brad Swainston and Emma Loten, who finished with a 12-0.

David Lloyd will be relegated after losing to York and Rufforth. That was Rufforth's first win of the season. Both promoted clubs look set to go back down.

Jack Batchelor and Alex Bolam were unbeaten as Dunnington beat division two winners Heworth.

Promotion is in their hands but they must see off rivals Wetherby Castlegarth, who squeezed passed Poppleton, and Bubwith, who defeated lowly Wigginton.

Rowntree Park, trying to avoid the drop, edged Bubwith but then lost a close-fought match against relegation rivals York.

Tristan Gretton and Rachel Huggins won all three rubbers 10-2 as division three leaders Sherburn continued their unbeaten run, one of just three clubs with a clean sheet.

Mick Miller and Ellie Page finished with 12-0 to seal Bishopthorpe’s promotion and at the same time relegate opponents Appleton Roebuck.

Wilberfoss ended Fulford’s promotion hopes by edging them by two games.

The division four title is in York's hands after unbeaten Jack and Kate Lewis led them to another win.

They are level on points with David Lloyd, who finished their season by beating Fulford, despite the efforts of Mark Cook and Kelly Spry, who won 28 games.

Games difference also separates the top two in division five.

Rowntree Park top it after they halted the hopes of third-placed York despite being unable to beat Jonathan Alexander and Christine Twigge.

Second-placed Riccall took the points at Fulford, who now have relegation worries after Cawood went above them when edging Appleton Roebuck by two games - sending Roebuck down.

Tollerton stayed top of division six after winning their last match at promotion rivals Wilberfoss thanks to first pair Josh Hunt and Ellen Strabel winning all three rubbers 9-3.

Rufforth are second after Andy Ivel and Denise Riley put together another match-winning scoreline. They are one point behind Tollerton and one ahead of Wilberfoss with one match to play.

Division seven is between three teams after third-placed Heworth beat leaders Cliffe. Oscar Hubble and Sara Grinnel ensured Dunnington stayed in the mix and end neighbours Sutton upon Derwent’s hopes.

Wistow’s big win spearheaded by Nick Clemishore and Sarah Huggins saw Stillington go down with Bubwith.

Tollerton will be promoted from division eight but defeat to opponents Riccall has left them waiting to see if they will lift the trophy.

Bishopthorpe can finish on the same points, following a big win at Tadcaster led by unbeaten Sam Watson and Jackie Mason.

Contenders New Earswick also slipped up after Wheldrake won their first match after several close scorelines.

Wilberfoss have one hand on the division nine trophy after Charlie Dodds and Liz Walker led them to a final win at relegated Dunnington 6.

Rufforth are the only side who can topple them. Dan Russel and Kate Lewis led them to another victory and relegated opponents Dunnington 5.
