BARNSLEY’s David “The Dart Knight” Copley has become the sixth Streamline Taxis York Open Darts champion after victory over PDC tour player Richie Corner.

The event, organised in association with Red Dragon Darts, started six months ago and featured 12 ranking events where players collected points and prize money in a bid to reach the Grand finals at Huntington WMC.

In the final, Copley beat Corner 7-5 and hit 24 ton plus scores with an average of 81.97. He had defeated Mark Lawrence in the semi-final.

Corner, who defeated York's Chris Quantock in the semi-final, finished with an average of 88.38.

In the ladies competition, York's Jo Hodges averaged 50.97 in a 3-1 victory over Harrogate’s Val Wilson who averaged 44.08.

Hodges defeated Doncaster's Paula Burgess 3-2 in the semi-final with Wilson whitewashing Easingwold's Tracy Marran.

The youth final was won by 10-year-old Leighton Bennett from Lincoln who beat 14-year-old Jack Good from York. Bennett took the deciding leg in 21 darts and finished with a 54.29 average. Good's average was 49.59.

Bennett defeated York’s Tom Speich semi-final while Good beat York's Ryan Lea.

Entries are now being taken for the Huckleberry's York Darts Promotions Darts Masters which takes place on Saturday November 5 at Huntington WMC with a guaranteed first prize of £1,000.
