DUNNINGTON lost only one rubber as they skittled Fulford and jumped to second in division two of the Tyke Petroleum Men‘s Tennis League.

Brad Swainston and Will Peeke-Vout returned a maximum and 29 games, making it seven-and-a-half points out of nine since Peeke-Vout rejoined the team in mid-July after a six-year absence.

Former frontrunners Rowntree Park 2 were smart out of the blocks in their must-win match at home to title-chasers Sherburn.

Park’s Steve and Jamie Spaven defeated Steve Duree and Phil Bremner 7-5 to claim a 2-1 overall points advantage after the first round.

Sherburn dug in, though, winning four of the remaining six points, and stealing the match bonus with a 20-16 final round. Tristan Gretton and Kevin Holdstock were the match stars with a solid 3-27.

Appleton Roebuck jumped past Rowntree Park to third, after a close-run thing at Heworth.

Ollie Hicks and Stephen Jones hit 3-23 for the hosts, only for Appleton to edge every round on games and take the three-point bonus.

Starbeck 3 are now just nine points shy of claiming the division four title, with three matches to play. Sticking with the same players who won division seven last year, they are a surprise runaway success.

Captain Colin Lefley and Carlos Gabaldon were unbeatable at home to Poppleton 3, claiming 2½-25, for their team’s tenth win from 11 in level two.

It ended up being a double-whammy for Poppleton 3, as Appleton Roebuck 2 won the relegation six-pointer at Fulford 2 to leave Pop in the drop zone.

Roebuck 2’s James Pittaway and David Luscombe had a formidable 3-31.

Strensall completed a division five double over local rivals Sheriff Hutton. Matt Stephenson and Andy Smith with 3-25 were only just outshone by their captain. The result confirms Sheriff Hutton's relegation, after only one season at this level.

Cawood jumped back into promotion contention in division six with a big win over lowly Heworth 2. A solid team performance was topped by 3-24 from former captains Graham Bond and Tim Tillett.

Division seven leaders Riccall romped to a nine-point win at division six frontrunners Academy 2 in the inter-divisional contest. Pat Woodward was again invincible partnering Sam Mundon to 3-30 for Riccall, in a result which confirms their elevation to level two next season.

York 4 have conceded both their inter-divisional matches.

Alne & Tollerton, meanwhile, are the league's first trophy winners of 2016, claiming the division eight cup with victory at Wigginton 3.

In a close 57-51 result, A&T lost only one rubber, claiming a huge 9½ points for an unassailable lead.

Young talent Charlie Price and Josh Hunt were ruthless with three points from 22 games won. Matt Fletcher and Rob Proudley doggedly toughed out two points from 19 games, bumping their team up a level into division five next season.
