WIGGINTON A and Scarcroft B emerged as the triumphant teams on York Veterans' Cup finals day.
Despite damp and miserable conditions, two well-contested finals were fought out at West Park Bowling Club.
John Parsons, Bruce Dobson, Colin Ellis and Dave Jervis saw Wigginton A lift the Maddison Cup with the help of a five at the seventh end and a four at the tenth to come back from 7-3 down to lead 13-10 after 11 ends.
Dunnington A’s Jim Robinson, Graham Instone, Dave Kermode & Dick Osguthorpe responded with a three at the next end to draw square, before Wigginton just edged the last six ends to win 18-16.
In the Coronation final, Scarcroft B’s Dave Cade, George Watson, Harry Marshall and John Cooper got off to a flying start with the help of a six at the second end and led Barbican’s rink of Keith Ryder, Peter Durkin, Brian Ball and skip Gordon Walker 13-6 at the half-way mark of the 18-end final.
Not to be outdone, Barbican fought back to level the scores with one end to play, before Scarcroft scored a single at the last end to secure an 18-17 success.
The Veterans' life member Doug Petty presented the cups to both winning skips.
