SEVERAL York City Baths Club swimmers have been invited to compete at this year’s British Summer Championships and ASA Summer Championships.

The competitions, held at Ponds Forge in Sheffield, began this week and run until August 5.

To be eligible to race in the British Summer Championships, swimmers must have been ranked in the top 24 on the ASA national rankings when the qualification window closed and to be eligible to swim in the ASA Summer Championships they must have occupied one of the next 20 places on those rankings.

A club spokesman said: "This is a tremendous achievement for the swimmers involved."

The York swimmers to have qualified are:

Harry Devlin, 16, in 50-metre breastroke, 200m Breastroke (British Championships);

Lucy Nicholson, 16, in 400m freestyle, 200m butterfly (British Championships), 800m freestyle, 400m individual medley (National Summer Championships);

Marcus Walker, 14, in 50m breastroke (British Championships);

Jason Robson,13, in 50m breastroke, 100m breastroke, 200m breastroke, 200m butterfly, 200m IM, 400m IM (National Summer Championships);

Neola Thorpe, 15, in 50m butterfly, 100m butterfly (National Summer Championships);

Ella Fisher, 14, in 200m butterfly (National Summer Championships);

Jack Pear Dorland, 16, 3k open water;

Jack Dorland, 16, 3k open water.
