GOLFER'S elbow put paid to a close contest at Tyke Petroleum Men’s League leaders Poppleton as York’s Pete Hall had to retire early after he and John Moore had held Nick Turnbull and Dom Shread to a first round draw.

Rowntree Park’s final-round 2-21 narrowly pipped hosts Racquets, who were looking for just their third win in division one.

David Lloyd ran riot against Starbeck, Andy Holmes and Dale Fawcett scoring 3-30.

Poppleton 2 scrapped for everything, not losing a single rubber, at division two title-contenders Bubwith, who had to settle for 2½ from five drawn rubbers. Tom Cantrell and youngster Reuben Young alone returned 2½-23 for Pop.

Copmanthorpe opened a 12-point lead, aided by 3-31 from David Beattie and Dave Atkinson away at Knaresborough.

Despite winning six rubbers at Boston Spa 2 by 7-5, David Lloyd 2 were held to a 54-all draw, settling for a modest win to open a 12-point gap at the top of division three.

Chasers Rowntree Park 2 tripped up at home, with only new boys Andy Crockett and Steve Walker scoring against a rampant Harlow for whom Ivan Dechovsky and John Shackleton were the day’s joint-top pair with 3-32.

Both Bishopthorpe captains turned out despite debilitating injuries and both top-scored for their teams.

In division four, James Parker hobbled to 2-21 with Chris Sharples, as Bish won their derby against Appleton Robuck 2. In division eight, Bish seconds captain John Coop bravely battled Wigginton 4, returning his team’s only point, partnering Alan Reynolds, despite an imminent hip replacement op.

Starbeck 3 stayed top of division four despite being run close at Copmanthorpe 2. Rowan Brookes and John Berger were irrepressible with 3-27.

Wetherby are the first team to pop the 100-point barrier this year, averaging over ten points per match, after another big haul in division five, this time at Sheriff Hutton.

A great result at Wetherby 2 sees Strensall swap places with their hosts. James Whitwell and Mark Howarth scored 3-25.

Joint top-guns are Ben Alport and Alex Gurnell with 3-32 as all three Wilberfoss pairs scored 30-plus games at strugglers Cliffe.

David Welsh and Terry Savage also bagged 3-32 for Cawood in their best win of term, at Heworth 2 in division six.

Bubwith 2 took just two pairs to Harlow 2 yet won 55-53. Leading the charge was Chris Cobley and Andy Corfield with 3-30.

Riccall have also hit the ton, remarkably after only nine matches.

Pat Woodward and Paul Elmhirst aced it with 3-31 at Wheldrake, as the runaway division seven leaders claimed all but a half-point.

Wigginton 3 stole a march on Wilberfoss 2 in the tussle for the second division eight promotion spot, with a big win at Dunnington 2. Nick O’Keeffe and Andy Galloway bagged 3-30.
