KYLE Edmund and James Ward are expected to play singles for Great Britain in this week's Davis Cup quarter-final against Serbia.
Beverley-based Edmund, 21, is a former Pocklington Prep School pupil, who is currently ranked 67th in the world.
His opportunity has arisen because Andy Murray is 'unlikely' to play after the pressure of winning Wimbledon and Dan Evans has been ruled out with a shoulder injury.
Ward, from London is Britain's number 5 but has fallen to number 240 in the world rankings. He secured a crucial win against American John Isner in the Davis Cup first round last year.
Edmund, who made his Davis Cup debut in last year's final against Belgium, was beaten in the first round at Wimbledon by France's Adrian Mannarino.
But he had shown good form going into the tournament, pushing Murray to three sets at Queen's after beating then-world number 18 Gilles Simon for the biggest victory, in ranking terms, of his career.
World number one Novak Djokovic, beaten in the third round at Wimbledon, has already withdrawn from the Serbia team.
