SHERBURN have one hand on the division three trophy in the IT Sports Mixed Tennis League after beating Fulford and closest rivals Bishopthorpe.

Tristan Gretton and Rachel Huggins won 29 games at Bishopthorpe and then Huggins partnered Stephen Duree and lost only one game against Fulford.

Bishopthorpe bounced back with victory against Cliffe led by James Field and Laura Rhodes winning 32 games, one game ahead of team-mates Mick Miller and Ellie Page.

Sherburn still have their two closest rivals to play.

Fulford moved out of the division one relegation zone with top scorers Govind Baker and Ruth Painter unbeaten in the victory at Rufforth before Leo Knighton partnered Painter to spring the surprise of the week and beat York's first team.

Thirty games from Dunnington’s Paul Birch and Karen Mitchell ensured a win against Rufforth and lifted the team into second place.

Could Heworth soon have a team back in division one after over 30 years? They have opened up a lead at the top of division two and collected another two points against York thanks to top scorers Oliver Hicks and Hayley Banks finishing with a 10-2 win.

Wigginton recorded their first win in a close match at Poppleton. With just 2 points covering the four places behind Heworth, Wetherby Castlegarth’s Steve Jones and Yvonne Mannall 11-1 opener grabbed the points against Rowntree Park in another close match.

Marc Jones and Fiona White won 29 games for David Lloyd as they remained in second place with a win against Stillington. Dunnington lost the chance to move into second with an experienced side drawing at Bishopthorpe and just losing out against Fulford.

Division five has now split into two with Fulford’s unbeaten Mark Cook and Kelly Spry picking up 2 valuable points against leaders Rowntree Park to move above Appleton Roebuck who couldn't claw back the games after York’s Jonathan Alexander and Christine Twigg 11-1 result kept their side in second place.

Andy Ivel and Denise Riley won 27 games for Rufforth to retain top spot in division six and dent opponents Poppleton’s promotion push.

Tollerton moved into third place on games difference after their win at New Earswick led by Josh Hunt and Dot Hornby winning 27 games just ahead of David Lloyd led by the unbeaten Mark Bland and Lisa Garland.

The top two clashed in division seven with Cliffe taking over top spot led by unbeaten Dave Hall Snr and Jane Pemberton after the visit of Dunnington.

Heworth missed the chance to close the gap at the top after Stillington’s unbeaten Michael Wragg and Jennifer Jones secured a vital win in their fight against relegation.

All change in division eight after new leaders Tollerton won by just 2 games against Tadcaster.

Bishopthorpe are in second place after their win at Wheldrake just ahead of Riccall who were engaged in a close encounter against Appleton Roebuck winning by just 8 games.

Wilberfoss are closing in on promotion after beating one of their rivals Fulford - led by Ben Alport and Maxine Bailey who won 28 games.

Wigginton maintained their promotion hopes after Neil Storey and Emily Meyer won 29 games against Bishopthorpe.

David Lloyd’s Tony and Fiona White won 35 games as they overcame Wilberfoss in division ten.

Appleton Roebuck are favourites to join them in the higher division after unbeaten Richard Barwick and Julia Campbell finished with a 12-0 to take the win at Fulford.

Rufforth’s Tom Frame and Tess Abbey outscored team mates Martin and Penny Sheard by just one game after their win at Poppleton and move above them in the table.

Rufforth beat Sutton upon Derwent this time lead by unbeaten Simon Detheridge and Vicky Wrigley.
