GOLFER Simon Dyson is struggling in the French Open.

The York-born professional, who missed this week's Open qualifiers to attend the birth of his second child, finished seven over par after today's first round and stands joint 145th in a 156 player field.

Harrogate-born Chris Hanson, however, is a shock contender for the title after shooting a three under par score of 68.

Hanson, who is now based in Huddersfield, currently stands joint fifth on a leaderboard which is topped by Denmark's Lucas Bjerregaard who hit a hole-in-one on his way to a five under par score of 66.
