A QUARTET of York-based Army Cadet Force athletes have qualified to represent the North of England at the national championships.

The cadets from detachments in Clifton and Fulford competed in the the regional event at the Sports Village in Middlesbrough last month they triumphed at the Yorkshire North and West County meeting in Leeds.

Cadet Lance Corporals Charlotte Hammond and Ellena Powell earned gold medals in discus and javelin respectively, while Cadet Annabel Bean struck gold in the 100-metre sprint.

Cadet Daniel Waddington was a member of the successful 4x100m relay team.

Major Neil Ward said: "This is a great achievement for the young people involved and their detachments in Clifton and Fulford are very proud of them."

The national ACF competition is held in Grantham.
