YORK golfer Simon Dyson finished an encouraging tied-68th at the Nordea Masters – despite carding a third round 83.

As reported, the Malton & Norton Golf Club ace was delighted to make the halfway cut on Friday, finishing one-under par after his opening 36 holes in Sweden.

Following a tough year of injury and illness – including wrist surgery in 2015 and a bout of pneumonia this season – the 38-year-old was back in European Tour action at the Bro Hof Slott Golf Club.

The six-time Tour winner eventually ended on 11-over for the tournament, but will look back on Saturday's round, which included three double-bogeys, with some regret.

Dyson will now turn his attentions to the Lyoness Open in Austria, which tees off on Thursday.

Fellow Yorkshireman Matthew Fitzpatrick won his second Tour title as he eased to a three-shot victory yesterday.

The Sheffield man came into the final day with a five-shot advantage and, while he saw that cut to two around the turn, he kept his head on the back nine to sign for a 71, get to 16-under, and hold off the challenge of Lasse Jensen and Nicolas Colsaerts.
