THERE was a good turnout from Thirsk and Sowerby Harriers for the popular Melmerby 10k – held on the same weekend for the past 30 years or so.

What a pity, then, that Northallerton decided to hold its inaugural race on this same date!

Rob Lickley was the first club finisher at Melmerby on a reasonably level course, coming 59th out of 290 in 42.06 – his best time for this year, and well inside his target time of 45 minutes.

Graham Robinson also had a season's best, 64th in 42.18, with Laura Bosomworth, 71st and second U18, in PB 42.43.

Rebecca Burgess, continued her excellent form, 84th in 43.39, with Stuart Waters 126th and highly delighted with his PB time of 47.08, Steven Scott 138th in season's best 47.58, Brian Smith 173rd in SB 50.22 and Ian Codling 269th in 68.42.

The Northallerton 10k, starting and finishing in the High Street, had some testing hills and the 500 or so runners enjoyed the experience.

Gary Dunn took 36.11, Paul Atkinson 45.29, Marc Davies 48.40, Phillip Craig 52.45, Alan Harman 54.08, Andrea Almack 57.08, Tracy Hayden 59.36, Louise Thompson 59.54, Bev Davies 65.25 and Liz Stephenson 80.06.

The weekend's Park runs saw Martin and Jane Cummins at Fountains Abbey, with Martin finishing 104th out of 301 in 24.01, and Jane 247th in 31.32.

Five Harriers were at Northallerton, with Andy Butcher coming 12th out of 67 in 23.37, Peter Richardson 14th in 24.40, Alison Butcher 45th in 30.35, Joanne Richardson 63rd in 41.39 and sweeper Phillip Craig 67th in 57.21.

Charlotte Wilton visited the Parke Park Run in Devon, and came 27th out of 147 in 23.42.

At Dalby Forest, Rosie Gatenby was 55th out of 131 in 26.20.

The previous weekend, both Walter and Joseph Busuttil took part in the Driffield Triathlon. The senior race involved a 400m swim (6.22, for Walter,), 20k cycle (28.57) and 5k run (21.08), giving him an overall time of 58.37 and a sixth-position finish.

He managed to retain his M50 title, gained last year, in a 13-second faster time.

Joseph competed in the Tristar 3 category, involving 300m swim, 6k cycle and 2.4k run – taking 36.10 overall, coming fourth and beaten by only five seconds by the third-placed competitor.

It's time to get entries in for the Sessay Swift 6k on August 24. Full details of the event are on the club website.
