ROWNTREE Park continue their storming start to the Tyke Petroleum Men’s Tennis League season.

James Denmark and Paul Adams were not unduly troubled with 2½-25 in an emphatic demolition of Harrogate Racquets to make it three wins from three for Rowntree.

Honours ended even as York and Poppleton clashed at Clifton Park.

York, boosted by coach John Moore, still had to chase the league champions, who claimed the top tie with 3-27 from captain Nick Turnbull and Nikki Rohlfing.

A first top-flight success for Academy came at a canter with Mat Parry and Adam Rider scoring 3-27 at home to Wigginton.

Bubwith nosed ahead in a dog-eat-dog division two, getting ten points out of hosts Poppleton 2.

Trophy rivals Dunnington opened their account by squeezing all but a half-point from Wigginton 2, as captain Paul Birch and teenager Jack Batchelor boomed out a 3-29 message of intent.

Copmanthorpe rejoined the hunt, welcoming back Dave Atkinson and Jonny Kay, who were both unbeaten against Knaresborough.

Rowntree Park 2 matched their first team with a resounding defeat of hosts Harlow to head up division three.

Father-and-son duo Steve and Jamie Spaven dished out a maximum 3-27.

Howard Pallister and Jamie Winspear kicked on a level, edging host hot-shots Ollie Hicks and Nick Latcham 7-5 and helping York 2 to a handsome win at division five cup-holders Heworth.

Paul Chappell and Mark Bland aced 3-24 for David Lloyd 2 against fellow promoted outfit Boston Spa.

York 3 top division four after Jack Lewis and Jon Alexander claimed 3-26 against Poppleton 3.

Rob Abbott and Mark Blackburn’s maximum helped Copmanthorpe 2 share the rubbers at Starbeck 3.

Host pair Rowan Brookes and Carlos Gabaldon signed off with a bonus-stealing 9-3 for Starbeck.

David Luscombe and James Pittaway were once again imperious for Appleton Roebuck 2, only for their team-mates to disappoint, as visiting Bishopthorpe stole the match.

Division five boasted the top guns as Wetherby 1’s Mike Butterworth and Paul Gouden tore into Sheriff Hutton, to return 3-31.

Strensall took the rubbers, courtesy of 3-22 from James Whitwell and Mark Howarth, but visitors Wetherby 2 won the games and the match by seven points to five.

Cliffe could only muster two pairs, meanwhile, for their short hop to Wilberfoss.

In division seven, Riccall are going flat out for honours this season following another big win.

Captain John Lintott maxed with 3-27, partnering Dave Pegg against unlucky Wheldrake.

Bishopthorpe 2 got their first points, scrapping to five draws and winning two rubbers 7-5, in their tense tussle at home to Wigginton 4.

Even with two unbeaten pairs, though, they still narrowly lost the match bonus.

New team Rufforth 2 have withdrawn, however, leaving the division with just seven teams.

Wigginton 3 avenged their second team with a big win at home to Dunnington 2 in division eight, as Rob Walker and Stu Langley netted 3-27.

A first win of the season still eludes David Lloyd 3 despite 3-23 from Geoff Stokes and Phil Rigby.

Inexplicably they took just two pairs to Knaresborough 2, despite their club’s fourth team having no match that morning.
