FORMER York City Rowing Club ace Tom Ransley won bronze at the European Championship in Brandenburg.

Ransley, who also studied at the University of York, joined Matt Gotrel, Scott Durant, Paul Bennett, Pete Reed, Andrew T Hodge, Matt Langridge, Will Satch and cox Phelan Hill in the men’s eight crew that crossed the line third during the final race of the Germany-staged tournament.

The boat finished just under five seconds behind winners Germany and almost three adrift of runners-up Russia.

Belarus, Poland and Holland also made the final.

The bronze was one of seven medals won by team GB, including four golds and two silvers.

Ransley is now preparing for the World Cup in Lucerne, which will take place from May 27 to 29, as the countdown to this summer’s Rio Olympics continues.
