MALTON & Norton Golf Club ace Simon Dyson is set for another lengthy spell off course after being diagnosed with pneumonia.

Having withdrawn from last month's Hero Indian Open due to illness, the York star was expected to return to European Tour action next week (April 14) at the Spanish Open.

However, this week's diagnosis signals another massive blow for the six-time Tour winner, who has struggled to find form since returning from wrist surgery last year.

Clearly disappointed, Dyson tweeted: “Well, having been so ill for five weeks straight they've finally diagnosed me with pneumonia. Lengthy time away from golf coming up yet again.”

While unsure of his exact return date, Dyson is confident he will be back in time for the Irish Open, which tees-off on May 19.

That enforced lay-off would see the 38-year-old miss Tour events in China, Morocco and Mauritius over the next month.

Dyson is remaining upbeat, however, and added that he hopes Rory McIlroy can complete his Majors grand slam at Augusta this week with victory at the Masters.
