MIKE CARTER salvaged yet another draw for City of York Hockey Club 1 as a late strike secured a 3-3 draw with Whitley Bay and Tynemouth in the North Men's League premier division.

York got off to a fast start, enjoying nearly all the possession and securing a series of short corners, but could not find the back of the net.

Whitley Bay took advantage and scored two goals but, shortly before the half-time whistle, a skilful run from Tim Slicock and a interchange of passing between himself and Tom Feasby forced another short corner.

Carter stepped up to the top of the D and converted with a drag flick in the bottom right.

With it all to do in the second half, City again started the brighter and levelled following some lovely passing between Alex Cockram and Luke Ramli on a breakaway. They moved all the way up to the Whitley Bay D where Ramli flicked the ball over the keeper.

The home team went back in front, though, when a one on one with York goalkeeper Eliot Walker resulted in a penalty flick. It was dispatched.

But, with five minutes to go, York got another short corner and Carter dragged flicked it home to grab a share of the spoils.

City of York 2 remain six points adrift at the bottom of division 2 east after they were beaten 6-1 by North Shields 1 at Huntington School.

Having secured their first win against Sheffield University Bankers a fortnight ago, City were looking to put in a similar showing against fourth placed Shields, who had beaten them 4-2 up in the North East back in October.

The visitors made the perfect start to the game, though, opening the scoring after four minutes when an effort found the top corner.

City began to get a better foothold in the game, but Shields continued to look dangerous on the break.

York have conceded goals at crucial times and North Shields scored twice in two minutes shortly before the interval to go into the break with a 3-0 advantage.

Worse was to come when, two minutes into the second period, City's defence was caught on the ball and an intercepting striker moved clean through on goal to slot home. York did pull a goal back when Matt Guy was on hand at the back post to get the final touch to a good ball into the D.

The game opened up and chances were spurned by both sides. But Shields proved more proficient as they added two more to their tally to secure a big win.

It ended one of York's most disappointing performances of the season and the side now must bounce back in their final four league fixtures - starting with the trip to ninth placed Doncaster 2s at the weekend.

AFTER two high scoring wins, City of York 3 went down 3-1 at Doncaster 3 in Yorkshire League division two.

York started brightly and led when Jack Fletcher beautifully beat his marker before drawing the keeper and providing Joe Lancaster with the easiest of finishes.

Doncaster's keeper would prove to be a thorn in City's side throughout the game and, despite dominating proceedings, York turned the ball over too regularly and invited pressure.

A ball into the congested midfield saw a Doncaster attacker dispossess Lancaster, in what looked like a clear foul, before setting up his strike partner for the equaliser.

The next goal was always going to be crucial and Doncaster started the second half brightly - tweaking their system and taking the upper hand.

Amid a flurry of green cards for both teams, Doncaster's second was a great finish with their striker shooting on the half turn to beat Rob Levy in the York goal.

Another overload saw a Doncaster player on the byline feed the on-rushing attackers and establish a two goal cushion that they would keep until the end of the game despite City pressure.

City of York 4 moved back into third in the table with a 5-0 win over Ramgarhia 1.

Greg Sykes opened the scoring in the first five minutes and Danny Vaughan made it two soon after. York dominated territory after the break and two more strikes gave Sykes his hat-trick. Ben Foster completed the win.

Pip Cook scored a first half goal for City of York 5 but could not stop them falling to a 2-1 defeat at Wakefield 5 in division four north.

Second placed Mirfield could only bring nine men to play City of York 6, who responded with a 3-1 win in division five north.

The first 15 mins were fairly even despite City's numerical advantage, but a well-worked short corner was finished by Brendan Plant as the home side moved in front.

A second came through Callum Green, but City were pegged back by a well-struck Mirfield short corner just before half-time.

A hard fought second half saw green cards handed out as altercations broke out among players. But York secured victory with ten minutes to go when Paul Rowntree finished a good move.

City of York 7 got their third win of the season against Airedale 2 in division five north.

Goals scored by Chris Allerton (2), Bryce Tuckett, Stafford Swainston and debutant Cameron Mackie rounded off a 5-2 victory for York.
