AIDAN RANFTLER remains unbeaten in 2016 as Clarence 'A' secured an 8-2 victory over bottom team York RI 'D' in division one of the SLT FM Solutions Ltd York and District Table Tennis League.

James Lowe and Martin Lowe retained their 100 per cent records as leaders Coneysthorpe 'A' prevailed 6-4 against York RI 'B' while York RI 'A' whitewashed their 'C' team to strengthen their hold on second place.

Jim Mills and Jon Wooldridge excelled as Bootham 'A' thrashed an under-strength Coneysthorpe 'B' 9-1.

In division two, a treble from Graham Hatfield was the highlight as leaders Clarence 'B' defeated University 'C' 7-3.

Second placed Wetherby still managed to cut the deficit at the top, though, as they whitewashed York RI 'F' 10-0.

Strensall needed a maximum from in-form Nigel Reeson to see off a determined BT 'A', while a sparkling performance from Steve Ayres could not prevent Bootham 'D' going down 6-4 to York RI 'E'. Ryedale@RI shocked Bootham 'C' and moved out of the relegation zone as John Flintoft inspired them to an excellent 6-4 victory. Gareth Bryning continued his superb form as Bootham 'D' eased to a 7-3 victory over Shepherds 'A'.

In the third division, leaders Clarence 'C' showed their class as they thrashed a fading Shepherds 'B' 9-1, while University 'B' cruised into second place with Yankui Feng and Razvan Ababei on top form as they recorded a 9-1 triumph over Wigginton/Haxby.

A determined unbeaten performance from Peter Smalley was decisive as York RI 'G' edged a close encounter with Clarence 'D' 6-4 and Chris McLuskie starred as Burnholme 'A' defeated York RI 'H' 7-3.

It required a treble from Pete Corner to allow Bootham 'E' to salvage a 5-5 draw against BT 'B', where veteran defender Bill Carter played superbly to beat Jan Suchecki.

Bootham 'F' picked up their first win in 2016 with Russ Barton and Jay Chinnian too powerful as they triumphed 8-2 against Burnholme 'B'.

There were only two fixtures in division four.

Clarence 'F' prevailed 6-4 against University 'C' but Andrew Rouse played superbly for the students with an unbeaten performance.

York RI 'I' and York RI 'J' fought out a competitive 5-5 draw with braces from Arthur Sorley and Ben Robinson being matched by similar efforts from Adam Webb and veteran Geoff Leafe.
