YORKSHIRE Bowling Association has appointed York-based Paul Humphreys as the new men's team manager.

The role will see him oversee the performance of the county's elite teams and help develop a "wider structure that will allow the county to become a consistent force, regularly challenging for silverware at all levels".

A delighted Humphreys said: "It’s a real honour to be appointed into this role. To be the team manager for all of Yorkshire BA’s men’s teams is a significant responsibility, one which I am very much looking forward to.

"The county has a proud history and has regularly produced individual talents who have gone on to achieve great things within the sport, however in recent years representative team successes have been sparse.

"I will be working hard to ensure that silverware returns to Yorkshire and the county become regular challenges in all competitions, at all levels.

"I am keen for as many bowlers to nominate, via their club secretary, for the men’s teams this year whether they are current, former or new players to the county system.

"We already have many talented players, but I am convinced that many more remain undiscovered and I hope that my appointment, and with it the start of a new era, will encourage an increase in nominations for the 2016 season.”

Yorkshire kick off with the Muras Cup against Lancashire at Northallerton BC and the Alsop Cup team hosts Cumbria at Middlesbrough BC on May 21.
