YORK ladies maintained their 100 per cent record in the Yorkshire League with a 107-66 victory over Scarborough, claiming three of the four rinks,

At home, Maureen Walker, Betty Richardson, Hayley Macdonald and Helen Walker got off to a flier - picking up a seven on their fifth end to make the score 13-2.

They continued to dominate and scored 16 shots between the 13th and 18th ends as they went on to a 41-6 victory.

Pam Richardson, Pat Potter, Pauline Cooper and Melanie Brooke were 11-3 ahead after eight ends but, three ends later, the score stood at 11-8 before they pulled away again to claim a 21-14 success.

In Scarborough, Carol Banks, Sue Tomlinson, Helen Wood and Linda Harrison edged a high scoring thriller by coming from 22-18 down with five ends to play to win 25-24.

Joan Jackson, Pauline Armitage, Sheila Turpin and Carol Instone just missed out on a comeback as they went from 20-14 after 18 ends to go into the last level at 20-20, only to drop a two and lose.

The club's Yorkshire League division one and three teams dug deep to pull out victories.

The firsts beat Huddersfield 89-82 and the seconds saw off Selby 85-78.

Against Huddersfield, Stuart Smith, Malcolm Thompson, Phil Parsons and Phil Emmerson held their nerve in a game which saw the lead swap on seven occasions.

They went into the last end tied at 22 each before scoring a five to win.

Nigel Macdonald, Malcolm Harrison, Pete Jackson and Paul Mooring got off a slow start and found themselves trailing 12-3 after six ends before winning eight of the following nine ends.

That put them 18-15 nine in front but they dropped nine shots over the next three on their way to a 24-22 defeat.

The away game was equally closed and saw Neal Macdonald, Tex Stevens, Graham Brooke and Dave Stroughair finishing in style as they won five on the trot to overturn an 18-15 deficit into a 24-19 victory.

Alan Vowles, Chris Bishop, Graham Instone and Mark Clarke helped the aggregate by scoring five shots over the last two ends to only go down 17-16.

In a first-versus-third battle, York met Selby, who were 14 points adrift with a game in hand.

The challengers had the better of the opening half of the game and led 40-39 on aggregate at one stage.

In York, Harley Wenham, Julian Crabb, Eric Hodgson and Geoff Walker were in magnificent form and led 19-0 before Selby got on the board on the eighth end with a single.

Walker`s men kept going and finished 36-6.

Gordon Fennell, Wally Darbyshire, Allen Clapham and Mal Bulmer had to hold on as they went into the last three ends 16-10 up but only won 16-15.

In Selby, John Birch, Ray Clark, Ken Robinson and Jim Robertson were 8-0 down after five but a five on the 11th put them 11-10 ahead.

They held a 16-14 lead but a disastrous finish saw them lose 25-16.

Ken Simpson, John Butler, Gordon Walker and Tony Hopcutt struggled throughout but, importantly for the aggregate, won their last three ends picking up seven shots to only go down 32-17.

YORK Vikings picked up 12 of the 14 points at stake as they saw off Thornaby in Yorkshire Over-55s League division one.

They were looking to protect their away leg aggregate victory which was set up by Dave Dale, Andy Humphreys, Jim Robertson and Graham Instone, who dropped a two on their first end but only lost six more as they controlled the contest to win 28-9.

Also at Thornaby, Alan Vowles, Chris Bishop, Eric Hodgson and Geoff Walker did well to stop a bad run which saw them trail 18-6 before losing 23-15.

At home, Ray Calpin, Allen Clapham, Malcolm Harrison and Malcolm Thompson pulled away in the second half.

They moved from 11-7 ahead to a 31-9 victory, while Tony Hopcutt, Barry Walker, Roger Ford and Phil Parsons led from start to finish and won 21-10 in fine style.

The Vikings moved to within nine points of leaders Featherstone Jets, whom they play next Friday.

Meanwhile, tomorrow York ladies play their last-16 Yetton Trophy game against South Shields, starting at noon.

On Sunday, Thanet Road hosts the annual Yorkshire President (Alan Belfield, Featherstone) against Yorkshire Ladies President (Joan Jackson, York) challenge match, which begins at noon.

Next Tuesday at 6pm, York IBC host the National Mixed Fours area final between Hornsea’s Craig Newton and Redcar’s Alan Jones.

On Wednesday, they host the Midland Counties game between Durham and Nottinghamshire starting at 12.30pm.

That contest is then followed at 6.30pm by the National Ladies Pairs area final between Helen Walker and North Cave’s Eva Dayes.
