NEW Earswick Bowls Club Ospreys were left pointless after their meeting with Selby Swans.

At home, Martin Stubbs, Dave Thompson, Doug Carr and Bruce Dobson only scored two twos in the first 11 ends to go 15-4 down against A Mouser. They eventually lost 26-10.

The other home rink of Ray Mawson, Kevin Quinn, Vic Thompson and Bob Barrett began in similar fashion against J Harrand.

After scoring a two on the first end, they lost the next seven to trail 12-2. They fought back, winning seven of the next nine, to be 15-11 adrift with four ends to play.

Despite scoring four on the last end, they still lost 23-15.

At Selby, Vic Reed, John Broadhead, Alwyn Anderson and Brian Birch dropped a five and a three in the first six ends to go 8-6 down against T Saville. It was 15-15 after 17 ends but Selby had the better of the last four and won 20-16.

Howard Darrell, Dave Toms, Dave Hutchinson and Gary Stockton lost the first three ends against A Smith but won the next four to lead 10-3.

Selby won four ends on the trot to take the lead 11-10 before Earswick again dug in - winning four of the next five to lead 17-13 after 16 ends.

However, Selby pulled back to level at 17 all, Selby finished the stronger and took a 24-18 success.

New Earswick Ladies had the better of Scarborough in the North East Ladies League.

Doramy Bellwood, June Barker, Lynn Page and Kath Sykes were never behind until Scarborough levelled the scores at 18-all after 20 ends and scored two on the last to win.

Annette Prosser, Moyra Ellis, Carol Williams and Norma Davies were 10-8 down against M Martin but won 13 of the next 14 ends, including a five and a six, to go on to a 34-12 win.

At Scarborough, Linda Tordoff, Peggy Walker, Jackie Toms and Monica Morgan won seven of the first eight ends to lead V Simpson 8-1.

Scarborough won the next five ends to level at 8-8 and, although Earswick led 13-9 with four ends to play, they lost them all to go down 16-13.

Kay Hutchinson, Maureen White, Irene Warrington and Majorie Watson fought back from 11-6 down to win 21-18.

They suffered, though, in their next game against Selby in the Yorkshire Ladies League - picking up just a single point.

New Earswick 'A' whitewashed North Cave 'B' in their Yorkshire League division two match - collecting all 14 points.

At home, Bob Elliot, Dave Elcock, Mick Head and Paul Dawson led T Taylor 9-1 after seven ends and then scored a six at the tenth to go 15-5 up after 11.

North Cave won the next six ends to reduce the gap to 15-13 but only scored one single in the last five to go down 21-14.

Dave Imeson, Colin Ellis, Kevin Liddell and Bill Waldie dropped a two on the first end but never looked back. They lost only four more ends on their way to a 39-11 victory.

At North Cave, Gordon Fratson, Dave Clayden, Brian Gray and Andrew Fothergill led K Barker 5-4 after five ends but slipped 9-5 behind after nine.

Earswick then took control and won ten of the last 12 for an 18-12 victory.

Eric Cookson, Colin Pickup, Ralph Tiplady and Barry Johnson scored a two at the first end against K Dibble and slowly increased their lead on the way to a 29-12 victory.
