A WELL-DRILLED Sheffield University Bankers side doled out six of the best to City of York Men's 1 in the North Hockey League premier division.

The top of the league outfit sent York home with a 6-1 defeat - the rout beginning early when a short corner saw a drag flick smashed past Luke Brownlee in the City goal.

They went three up through fortunate finishes but were in control. York reduced the gap with a penalty stroke from Alex Cockram but the second half was one way traffic as City struggled to match the superior fitness levels of Sheffield.

City of York 2 picked up their first victory of the season with a 2-1 win over Sheffield University Bankers 2 in North Hockey League division two east.

Bankers took the lead against the run of play, a smart reverse stick effort finding the corner and, for the second week running, York had a goal ruled out. But they worked hard in the second half and Luke Ramli got on the scoresheet from a penalty corner.

With seven minutes left, Dan Hyden reacted first from a penalty corner to notch his first goal for the second string and give York the win.

City of York 3 thrashed Leeds Adel 2 6-0 in division two.

Rob Prentice got the first with a lovely clipped finish tucked away into the bottom right corner and they were 2-0 up through Hugh Richards' slapped shot from Prentice's reverse pass.

Pat Herriot added to the total in the second half and Russell Bowry put the game beyond doubt when he was on hand to force the ball home after a goalmouth scramble.

Playing their best hockey of the season, Jack Fletcher then opened his account for York and Herriot scored the sixth. The only dampener was a broken thumb for James Hylands.

A five goal thriller saw City of York 4 edge Ben Rhydding 3 in division two. They were three up at the break through Joel Wilson, Greg Sykes and Callum Green but York had to hold on in the second half to escape with a 3-2 win.

Harrogate 1 scored against the run of play as they beat City of York 5 1-0 in division four north, while City of York 7 went down 8-5 at Tadcaster Magnets 2 - Stafford Swainston, Bryce Tuckett, Hamish Broadbent, Matt Besford and Andy Wilson getting the visiting goals.

City of York 8 lost 3-0 to Scarborough 2 in division six north and York Badgers maintained their unbeaten run with a hard fought 2-2 draw at Slazengers.

A club record was set by City of York Ladies 5 after they hammered University of Leeds 7 16-0 in Yorkshire League division five north.

They scored eight goals in each period with Lauren Susnjara responsible for half of the tally - bringing her season's total to 22. Zoe Searson added a hat-trick and Caitlin Rore and Linda Skelton both scored twice. Sarah Davies got the other goal.

City of York Ladies 1 went down 3-1 at home to Didsbury Northern Ladies 1 in the North Women's League premier division.

They were slow out of the blocks and conceded a tap in goal after only a couple of minutes but were able to threaten the visiting defence once they settled into the game.

After a scrabble for the ball in the Didsbury ā€˜Dā€™, Ali Couttie levelled the scores. But Didsbury went back in front with a dubious goal, which was claimed to have come off a defender when it was lifted into the goal.

York pushed for an equaliser but Didsbury closed out the game with another goal.

City of York 2 picked up their first win since October when they dominated Halifax 4-0 in Yorkshire League premier division.

They led early when Eleni Andromidas received the ball at the top of the D and slipped it right to Charlotte Worsman, who squared it into the path of the oncoming Andromidas, who poked the ball past the keeper and into the goal.

In the second half, York extended their lead thanks to a cheeky shot by Jess Harbond from a wide angle, which went through a handful of Halifax defenders and their keeper and snuck inside the back post.

A hard ball into the D by Frances Livera, was deflected by Helena Page over the keeper and into the goal and Alice Wilson ended a sweeping attacking move with a great finish.

A dominating performance saw City of York 3 beat University of York 1 2-0.

The scores were level at the break with City not able to capitalise on their chances but, shortly after the break, Lily Rowntree found the backboard from a ball deflected in by Liz Armitage.

Another push forward by City found the ball moving quickly down the pitch and Armitage found Rowntree in the D. Her sharp shot doubled the advantage.

City kept the pressure on until the end and repelled a short corner as the final whistle blew.

City of York 4 lost 9-0 at Leeds Adel in division three and a strong Ben Rhydding side beat City of York 6 9-0 in division five north.
