ACOMB Hockey Ladies gained revenge over Canalside Terriers with a 2-0 victory in Yorkshire League division two.

The Tangerines had lost to the Terriers earlier in the season and they started the first half strongly as they tried to turn the tables.

Several attacks on goal saw them capitalise only once as a hit into the D from right midfield by Sally Fairweather fell to Kerry Woods. Her shot found a Terriers' foot but, with advantage being played, Wendy Watson sprang onto the ball.

Her super strike found the backboard.

Canalside kept playing plenty of balls straight through the middle of the Acomb defence, forcing midfielder Georgi Wood into some strict marking, but the second half saw the youthful legs of Vicky Wrigley on the left drive a sideline ball towards goal from the 25.

A backline pass returned from Leona Thorpe saw Wrigley move further into the D and past three defenders before a strong strike swept past the arm of the outstretched Canalside keeper and made it 2-0.

The visitors never stopped attacking but solid defensive work from goalkeeper Stephanie Barker, who foiled numerous short corners and shots on goal, saw her named player of the match.

Acomb Men's 2 gained grabbed a 2-2 draw against division five leaders Bingley Bees 1.

The first game between the two had seen them lose 10-0 but that was never on the cards this time as the Tangerines started the match with good possession.

That early domination was rewarded when, in the 20th minute, a great shot from Jamie Robinson was followed in by Harry Ellis to open the scoring.

Bingley Bees were awarded a short corner and good saves from Acomb's keeper Martin Grainge stopped them equalising on two occasions. The visitors did level shortly before half-time only for Bingley to take the lead midway through the second half.

Robinson came to the rescue with five minutes remaining to grab a share of the spoils. Acomb's man of the match was John Armitage.

Elsewhere, City of York Ladies 5s and 6s met in a division five north showdown with family rivalries at stake - but it turned out to be a one-sided clash.

The two captains are mother and daughter and it was the 5s who were cheering the loudest at the end following an 8-1 victory.

The 5s dominated most of the first half - scoring five goals - but the 6s fought back valiantly and were rewarded with a great goal by Laura Heywood.

It was a more even game after the break and the 6s put together some of their best hockey of the season, but the 5s scored on three further occasions - despite being forced to defend for periods.

City of York men's 8 came back to earth with a bump after an 8-1 loss at Garforth 1 in division six north.

The visitors were under a lot of pressure in the first half and Garforth were 2-0 up before Andy Dent pulled a goal back after a slick move down the right.

York struggled in the second half as the much younger Garforth side began to outpace the City defence and they ran in a further six goals.
