ACOMB 'A' took advantage of Fulford 'A's week off to leapfrog to the summit of the York Conservative Clubs' Carlsberg UK Snooker League after a convincing 6-1 win at Bootham 'B'.

After they took the opening frame, John Wortley hit back for Bootham when beating Roland Cox.

But Acomb won the next five with Nick Marchant beating Paul Scorfield and Keith Thornhill getting the better of Paul Mahoney in a hard fought game.

Paul Holmes beat Andy Proud on the black and Dan Potter pipped Paul Powell.

Lionel Barnes looked like beating Mick Borg in the last frame, as he led by 50 points at one stage, but Borg rallied well and produced a terrific break to take green to black, with good positional play, to secure victory.

Bootham 'A' took a 5-2 victory away from Heworth 'A'.

Rob Barron kept up his unbeaten run with a win over Jordan Worobec, despite his opponent getting a 33 break to lead by ten with only the final two colours remaining.

Barron slotted a long pink and made sure of the black to take the frame.

Heworth's Kevin Gall led Barry Rankin with four colours remaining but the Bootham potter cleared up from brown to black to put his side 2-0 up.

Nick Dyson hit back for Heworth, beating Jeff Brown on the pink, but Colin Robinson restored Bootham's advantage with a close win over Mark Winskill.

The match was resolved when Winskill went in-off the pink, leaving it easy for Robinson to claim.

Clive Whyte found it very difficult to score against Stuart Martel and had to concede defeat on the green. Martel was 84-25 ahead as Bootham moved 4-1 up.

Steve Burdett had a comfortable win over Justin Morris but Tim Fillingham took the last frame.

Despite being a man short, Fulford 'B' ran out 4-3 winners over Acomb 'B'. Andy Ogley, Andy Hurley and Phil Cook won the first three frames over A Morgan, Nick Goodacre and Kevin Ventress before Jeff Winter (22 break) pulled one back for Acomb as he defeated Dean Smith.

Fulford's Bob Smith secured the win, beating Jon Milner, before Chris Nicholson beat Jim Rollinson to reduce the deficit.

Malton 'A' went down 4-3 at home to Heworth 'B' as the latter picked up their first victory of the season.

Malton could not raise a full team and their opponents took full advantage with wins for John Sherlock over Phil Hart and Simon Whitely against Dominic Spiteri, while Joe Bedford got the better of Steve Beal.

They also claimed a walkover as Malton scored through Andy Sherry's victory over Andi Ireland, Dan Pawson against Martin Johnson and Roger Ward - with breaks of 31 and 24 - over Pete Henderson.
