BOOTHAM 'A' pulled off a great win at Acomb 'A despite being a man short in the York Conservative Clubs' Carlsberg UK Snooker League.

The visitors' Tim Fillingham was always in control - clearing up his handicap deficit against Trevor Ventress to take the first frame - and Bootham's advantage was doubled when Rob Barron defeated Richard Lillie.

They went further ahead when Colin Robinson beat Kevin Thornhill and Jeff Brown secured the win with a convincing victory over Nick Marchant.

Acomb's Dan Potter produced a tremendous fightback against Stuart Martel.

Martel took two blacks to add to his handicap start and lead 69-2 but left a red over the middle pocket which Potter sank on his way to a 42 break.

Potter later cleared up the colours to win by a single point.

Mick Borg beat Barry Rankin 71-28 with the help of a 31 break.

Bootham 'B' took the first two frames when they entertained Acomb 'B' with Paul Scorfield beating Jon Milner and Ian Robinson defeating John Winter.

But Acomb won the next five, and the match, with victories for Kevin Ventress over Matt Smith, Brian Henry against Paul Mahoney, Neil Goodacre over Lionel Barnes, Steve Rodgers against Paul Powell and Andy Stone over Andy Proud.

League leaders Fulford 'A' looked like carrying on their winning ways when they faced their 'B' team.

Sam England's win over Bob Smith and Jim Lee's success over Dean Smith, aided by a 22 break, gave them a 2-0 start.

They lost the next four frames, though, with Andy Hurley, Andy Ogley, Joe Kimbling and captain Jim Rollinson overcoming Sam Wass, Sam Parkinson, Tom Lewis and Jamie Husband respectively.

'A' team captain Alan Reed took the last frame against Derek Martin to make the score more respectable.

Heworth 'A' ran out 4-3 winners in a close game with Malton that included two black ball encounters.

Andrew Sherry, Dominic Spiteri and Adam Beal won for Malton but Heworth took the match with victories for Gary Douglas, Mark Winskill, Clive Whyte and Steve Burdett.

The latter saw off Phil Hart on the black to clinch the match.
