FULFORD Golf Club produced one of the most stunning displays in York Union of Golf Clubs Team Championship history - winning the title by 26 shots.

Armed with home advantage, the quartet of Damon Coulson, Charlie Thornton, James Cass and Ben Plaxton dominated from start to finish over a day of foursomes and singles at the Heslington course.

Coulson and Thornton combined to go round in only 69 strokes in the morning foursomes, where each player hits alternate shots, and Cass and Plaxton were just a shot behind with a two-under-par 70.

Coulson then bagged the Issott Trophy, given to the lowest individual score in the afternoon singles, after a fabulous four-under 68, while Cass shot 71, Thornton 72 and Plaxton 73.

It gave the Fulford fab four a combined total of 423.

Pike Hills, represented by Lee Bond, Martin Brown, Adrian Lount and Alistair Smith were second best on 449 with Malton & Norton, made up of James Walsh, Alex Wiggins, Richard Brown and David Hague, finishing third on 460.

Coulson said: "I have never seen any scores like that in this event. It's another win and we are happy just to keep winning for the club. I played well in the afternoon to hit 68. I left a few shots out there as you always do but I didn't do anything wrong.

"I was disappointed not to birdie the last for five under but it was a good day and we were all happy with the day. It's perked my year up a bit. I have had a good year but this is an extra add on and finishes it off nicely."

Plaxton added: "It is really good. We all play together quite a lot so we all know each other's games. We can feed off each other. I know what kind of shot James likes to hit into a green and I just put him in that position. Damon is the same."

Cass said: "We all played really well - put together some good scores and played steady all day".

Gary Pearce, Fulford general manager, said: "Obviously the team had home advantage, which helps. But, saying that, the scores they have shot were quite incredible and all four players played at their best all day.

"The foursomes scores, in particular, were very impressive at five-under-par. I can't give enough credit to the team. They have played great. We picked a young team. It is a team that represented us in the York Union second division scratch league and they went on to win that with some fantastic results.

"We thought we had picked the right team and it has proven to be correct."
