FORMER England legend Chris Waddle helped Match of the Day commentator Guy Mowbray's Football Charity Golf Day at Sandburn Hall raise £5,220 for Marie Curie UK.

The ex-Tottenham, Newcastle and Marseille winger was joined by the likes of fellow former pros Dean Windass, John Sheridan, David Hirst, John Hendrie and Michael Gray at the event, along with past York City favourites Andy McMillan, Wayne Hall and Paddy Atkinson.

Another one-time Bootham Crescent defender - Dave Spofforth - led the winning team to victory, meanwhile, with late stand-in Eddie Hicks - an employee in Sandburn's club house, clinching the triumph by defeating ex-Celtic and Middlesbrough striker Chris Killen, who played in the 2010 World Cup finals for New Zealand, in a play-off.

Marie Curie, who provide care and support for people with terminal illnesses and their families, is the chosen charity of Sandburn club captain Darren Lefevre during 2015.

Prizes on the day were donated by Glencor Golf Travel and each participant received a t-shirt courtesy of Grantside.

Marie Curie representative Julia Peacock also joined the former footballers on the day.
