STARBECK 3 finally clinched the Tyke Petroleum Men's Tennis League division seven title after a big win against Wigginton 4 in their penultimate match.

They led the division from start to to finish and a strong return from Chris White and Rowan Brookes, with 3-34, helped secure the shield.

Racquets, despite missing players, remain the only league team with a 100 per cent winning record and extended their lead at the top of division two after winning one of their matches in hand.

Richard Shannon and Simon Iles topped the charts 3-26 at Wigginton 2.

Boston Spa took over the top of division four with home success over long time leaders Bishopthorpe.

The closely-contested fixture was all square before Spa aced the final round 3-27 to record a table-topping result. Pete Smith and Andrew Milne were the perfect third pair for Spa, returning 3-24.

After the disastrous defeat to their own second team, Alne & Tollerton 1 continued playing catch-up in division eight, winning 50 points from their last five matches - including 22½ in their last two, both against Harlow 2.

The twin-village side boasted three unbeaten pairs against the division eight strugglers, with Howard Thompson and Rob Proudley leading the feast with 3-26.
