THE final matches in the IT Sports Mixed Tennis League provided some nail-biting clashes.

Rowntree Park went to Fulford with both teams needing the points and their new partnership of Nils Moroz and Vanessa Kennedy top scored with 26 games to seal the points. They missed out on promotion by a single point and left their opponents with one more match to try and avoid relegation.

Fulford went to Poppleton and won despite the best efforts of the home side's unbeaten Neil Johnson and Hilary Spencer.

But games difference meant Fulford were relegated with 11 points, much to the relief of Heworth.

Games difference also decided the promotion places in division five with York losing out to Bishopthorpe despite winning their final match at Fulford.

They were led by Granville Mark and Tessa Grieves, winning 29 games. Fulford's loss, along with a close defeat at Sutton upon Derwent, meant they were relegated along with Wigginton.

Wetherby Castlegarth ended on a high note with Oli Boyes-Park and Lucy Wright top scoring and ending with the perfect 12-0 as they remained one of only two teams in the league to be unbeaten all season.

Charlie Pearcy and Suzanne Webb led Appleton Roebuck to a final match win against Fulford as they finished third in division eight. They were just ahead of Tollerton, who came from behind after the second round to share the points with Fulford.

Bishopthorpe finished ahead of Tadcaster on games difference after meeting in their final match of the season with Brent Horner and Sandra Levitt adding another three unbeaten rubbers to their tally.

Wilberfoss did all they could to secure the second promotion place in division ten with a fine win against a strong Rufforth side. Dan Jacques and Max Bailey topped the scoring with 33 games.

They then had to wait for the only other team who could stop them, Bishopthorpe, to play their final two matches.

A good team performance from Bishopthorpe saw them beat Sutton upon Derwent and go into their final match at unbeaten champions Dunnington with promotion a possibility if they could win.

Alastair Domville and Jenny Rossington won 22 games for Dunnington but Rob Field and Amanda Seager replied with 26 games to seal the victory as Bishopthorpe went up in second place by just six games.
