RICCALL UNITED opened their defence of the York Minster Engineering Premier League with a 3-1 victory over Dunnington.

Riccall, who celebrated their first Premier League triumph for nearly 40 years in April and added the Rowntrees Cup to their trophy cabinet last week, went ahead through player-manager Gary Collier. Further goals from Wayne Brook and Niall Coulthard cemented the points.

Wigginton Grasshoppers beat Old Malton St Mary’s 4-2.

Jamie Willstrop gave Grasshoppers the lead after 20 minutes before adding a second from 25 yards ten minutes later. After the break, Darren Dunning’s floated free-kick was headed home by Marcus Godsell with half an hour to play.

But Willstrop completed his hat-trick before Josh Luckhurst flicked home Gary Newton’s corner to make it 4-1. Dean Nuttall hammered home a last minute penalty in consolation.

Premier League new boys F1 Racing upstaged last year’s senior cup winners Dringhouses, substitute Adam Robinson firing home in the 88th minute.

The other promoted side, Brooklyn, endured a bitter start. Goals from Jonah Beecher, John Langrick and Jonny Marshall secured the points for Church Fenton White Horse.

Huntington Rovers enjoyed a 3-1 success over visitors Tadcaster Magnets. Dave Hartas, Lee Bunce and Joe Milner made the scoresheet. Magnets’ effort came from an own goal.

Honours were even between Copmanthorpe and Terrington Glory. Thomas Paley opened the scoring for Cop, only to see Chris Leedham and Oliver Varey establish a 2-1 lead for Terrington. A well-worked corner late on allowed Tom Settle to fire home an equaliser.
