A THUNDEROUS left hook has landed Thai boxer Ian Houillebecq a national title.

The Legions Gym fighter knocked out Nathan Jessimer in the fifth round to take the WBC national Thai boxing title at 63.5kg - and produced his best despite suffering from a stomach problem right before going into the ring.

Houillebecq was in action at the Lagoon Leisure Centre, in Glasgow, as he stepped up from 61kg - where is the UK's number eight - to fight number five Jessimer at 63.5kg.

Feeling his way into the contest, Houillebecq got stronger as the fight went on before unleashing his power punch to leave Jessimer sprawling.

He said: "It was a tough fight - a challenge - but, luckily, I got the knockout. I have got a big crowd that follow me and they helped. I just went with the flow. I wasn't feeling 100 per cent but I got the win. I knew what I was capable of. I believe in myself and I knew I could do it.

"He didn't know where he was. I had a bad stomach before the fight and it took me a bit of time to get into it. He was a tough guy. But I was there to fight."

Legions coach Dave Phillips now believes big things are on the horizon for Houillebecq, who is a perfect five from five for bouts in 2015, if he can produce another compelling display at his next fight in October.

"His next fight is in Bolton on October 10 and, if he gets that, some big things will come his way," he said.

"Ian had a year out and, this year, he has had five fights, five wins and three with stoppages. He has won two championship belts. He is already known on the UK scene."
