RAIN badly hit the games in the IT Sports Mixed Tennis League and the re-arranged matches will decide the majority of promotion and relegation issues.

The division one title is still up for grabs after York ended unbeaten Poppleton’s run with top scorers Gareth Adams and Louise Marshman winning their middle rubber 12-0 to edge the points.

York were still unable to defeat Poppleton’s siblings Nick and Becks Turnbull.

Poppleton now have a potentially difficult encounter against Dunnington, who have finished third with an impressive win against Wigginton seconds. They were led by Alex McLean and Karen Mitchell, who just outscored Brad Swainston and Emma Loten.

Rowntree Park hold the key to promotion and relegation in division two.

Leaders David Lloyd fell to neighbours Heworth as captain Nick Latchman and Louise Haritakis won their final rubber 9-3 to seal the win. That, combined with another two points against Poppleton, lifted Heworth out of the relegation places.

But they then fell to bottom club Bishopthorpe, for whom Rob Williams and Ellie Page were unbeatable.

Poppleton bounced back with a win against York and maintained their promotion hopes thanks to Jordan Temple and Sue Pauer.

Rufforth are just one point behind leaders David Lloyd.

Dunnington have taken the runners-up spot in division three after winning the promotion decider against third-placed Sherburn. Greg Ashcroft and Rosie Todd ended the night with an 11-1 to seal the win and promotion.

Relegation is still wide open between three clubs after Stillington dragged their opponents Appleton Roebuck into the frame.

Division five split into two halves early in the season and is still no nearer to resolution after Steve Arnold and Fiona Vicary ensured Appleton Roebuck took the points against York.

Alan Wilkinson and Fran Critchley steered Bishopthorpe to the points and possible promotion in a victory which leaves opposition Fulford fighting the drop.

David Morritt and Jo Denton top scored for David Lloyd to keep them on top of division seven and end Sutton upon Derwent’s hopes.

Dunnington are still in with a chance of going up. They are lying third after their win against Stillington even though they were unable to beat the pair of Graham Cookman and Jennifer Jones.

David Lloyd and Wistow still have both fixtures to play against each other, the outcome of which will possibly decide promotion and relegation.

Riccall are waiting for the match between New Earswick and Dunnington to be played before they know if they will be promoted as champions or runners-up.
