BY George, he has done it again.

Pike Hills GC member George Hosie is celebrating once more after scooping his club's top senior competition.

The six-handicapper earlier this month claimed the prestigious York Union of Golf Clubs' Senior Championships after shooting 38 stableford points at Malton & Norton.

And just a few days later, Hosie was at it again but, this time, he faced a far more nerve-racking affair as he tried to write his name on the honours board at his Tadcaster Road-based club.

Starting poorly in the Pike Hills Senior Championship, Hosie rallied on the back nine and came home with a gross 78 - seven-over-par. It was a score that got him into a three-man playoff with David Stevens and Phil Robinson.

Like Zach Johnson at The Open Championship earlier in the week, Hosie held his nerve and his one-under-par score for the three playoff holes was enough to give him a fabulous double.

"I didn't really think I would win it but you enter and hope," he said. "I didn't start off too well but I finished well. I shot a gross 78 and I didn't think it would be good enough.

"I thought there would be others who would have bettered that score. We played 16, 17 and 18 in the play-off and I went round in one-under-par. I was par, birdie, par and played really solidly.

"I am delighted it is decided by a playoff rather than by countback. It was nerve-racking and it is great to have won both senior championships. It is a feat that has been done before but it was great - a really nice surprise."

Two Malton & Norton golfers, meanwhile, have hit golf's perfect shot.

Cliff Cunningham and Philip Hart both struck holes-in-one on the par three second at the Welham Park course.

Cunningham, 61 and a 20-handicapper, and Hart, 52, who plays off 11, were both rewarded with membership of the exclusive BOSS Watches H1Club and a specially-commissioned, commemorative timepiece.

The luxury German brand has once pledged to reward club golfers with an exclusive watch for every hole-in-one recorded during a club competition in 2015, after giving away more than £1m-worth of limited-edition timepieces since its launch in 2013.

Stephen Brydon, commercial director for MGS Distribution, the official licenced UK distributor for BOSS Watches, said: “For most amateur golfers, a hole-in-one is as memorable as winning The Masters would be to a professional. We want to ensure they have something tangible by which to remember the day, other than an expensive bar bill."
