ONLY two points cover the top four teams in division two of the IT Sports Mixed Tennis League.

Rufforth lost the chance to go top after losing by two games to Rowntree Park, while Heworth beat York. Both teams have moved out of the relegation places.

Oliver Hicks and Helen Gray were Heworth’s top scorers as they moved into fifth place.

There was no change in division one with the top four all winning.

The week's leading scorers were Poppleton's Nick and Rebecca Turnbull, who took 35 games against Wetherby Castlegarth. York remain second, led by Gareth Adams and Louise Marshman's 29 games, but all their couples were pushed by Wigginton’s Phil Langley and Denise Crane.

Bubwith have one hand on the division three title after beating closest rivals Dunnington.

Mark Harris and Jill Rounce top scored again with 30 games as Bubwith opened up a six point gap at the summit. Phil Bremner and Helen Haywood ensured Sherburn are still challenging for the second promotion place with a comfortable win against Stamford Bridge.

Twenty-nine games from Copmanthorpe’s Johnny Kay and Laura Atkinson kept their side at the top of division four as they got past Dunnington.

Wilberfoss are now in second place.

Rowntree Park have lost their unbeaten record in division six. They were unable to beat Tollerton's Josh Hunt and Tracy Stevens but they stayed top after beating closest rivals Alne.

The unbeaten Martin Pinfold and Kate Jackson did the damage.

Leo Knighton and Sue Jones won 28 games for Poppleton as they moved off the bottom for the first time and were replaced by opponents Copmanthorpe.

David Lloyd closed to within one point of leaders New Earswick after their win against Dunnington in division seven.

Nick Thurlow and Lisa Garland matched the scores of team-mates Rodger Hobson and Liz Taylor for David Lloyd. Bubwith stayed in touch with the promotion places after winning at Wistow but they could still find no answer to Neil Richardson and Sarah Huggins, who won 27 games.

They backed this victory up, though, with a good win against Wheldrake.

Brent Horner and Sandra Levitt won 28 games for Tadcaster but a good team performance by Heworth saw them take the points and the top spot in division eight. Wigginton’s Andy Galloway and Yvonne Petruso were the match-winners to lift them off the bottom of the table and also dent the promotion aspirations of opponents Bishopthorpe.

Rufforth’s Will and Chris Edmond finished with an 11-1 win but could not prevent their side going down to leaders New Earswick by a mere four games.

Riccall have taken over in second place, led by George Lintott and Sue Shouksmith in their win against Wilberfoss with Dave Stewart and Faye Lintott also winning 24 games.

Dan Jacques and Max Bailey won 26 games for Wilberfoss as they beat Fulford and stayed top of division ten.
