CHAMPIONS Rowntree Park returned to form in division one of the Tyke Petroleum Men's Tennis League.

They ended unbeaten as Knaresborough could only muster a point from two drawn rubbers and Park's James Denmark and Steve Spaven carded 3-31.

Dunnington youngster Alfie Hubble and Brad Swainston battled Poppleton talents James Silson and André Earnshaw to a draw but Poppy's 10 1/2 points keeps them within a win of the leaders.

David Lloyd totalled 26 points in their triple-header against Starbeck across three divisions.

With almost half their schedules completed, Harrogate Racquets have won the lot. Racquets 1 picked up their third 12 pointer of the year in division two - Mark Hinchcliffe and John Hargreaves top-scored with 3-32 at home to Fulford 2.

New Alne & Tollerton 2 acquisition, Josh Hunt, nailed a second successive maximum and 24 games with Charlie Price but visiting Racquets 2 had the depth and took the other six rubbers for their seventh win on the bounce to top division eight.

Copmanthorpe took up the chase in division two, leapfrogging a full strength Bubwith despite missing two regulars. Rob Abbott, deputising for Jack Wood, reached new heights with an unbeatable 2½-21 when partnering Dave Atkinson.

York 2 edged a close game with holiday-hit Wigginton 2 thanks to an 11-1 final rubber by Jez Catchpole and John Logan.

In division five, though, Wigginton 3 exacted revenge by turning round a nail-biter and clinging on 55-53 for a seven point win. Adam Houghton and Ben King were stand-outs for Wiggy 3 with 2½-23.

Appleton Roebuck 2 completed a gutsy double over York 4, with the two Steves, Arnold and Temple, squeezing 2½ points from an economical 20 games won, to take them onto the shoulder of their own first team in division four.

Brothers James and Will Edmond also scrapped to a plucky 2½-20, but proved Rufforth’s only scorers against leaders Boston Spa. All three Bishopthorpe pairs were unbeatable at Bubwith 2. Returning scholar James Field hit a first class 3-24 in his season debut with Mick Miller.

Partnering Jason May to 3-30, captain David Hicks finally eclipsed son Ollie and Nick Latcham in another big Heworth win - this time at home to Copmanthorpe 2.

With 82 from eight matches, Heworth are now favourites to be the first past 100 points this season.

Division six leaders Poppleton 3 were cut down to size as Billy Bartram and Nigel Britland were one of two unbeaten Sutton-on-Derwent 2 host pairs.

Academy 2 closed in by wringing 9½ points from just 59 games won in a tremendous contest at Boston Spa 2. Debutant pair Alex Frusher and Nick Craggs stole the points with a last gasp 10-2 for Sheriff Hutton in a tight tussle at Selby.
