YORK golfer Simon Dyson has had successful surgery to repair a slipped tendon in his left wrist.

The Malton & Norton Golf Club ace went under the knife on Wednesday in a 40 minute operation performed at the Alexandra Hospital, in Manchester, by the renowned hand and wrist surgeon Mike Hayton.

Dyson, who will now miss the rest of the European Tour season, had been plagued by pain and discomfort in the wrist in recent months - and had been forced to withdraw from both the Spanish and Irish Opens.

The 37-year-old six-time tour winner had undergone a cortisone injection to try and relieve the problem but, following the hospital procedure, was told that no amount of rest or recuperation would have solved the underlying problem and it would have reoccurred the moment he returned to competition.

Dyson was told that a previous tear in the wrist had healed badly and that, ultimately, surgery would always have been the only option for him to continue his successful 15-year career as a professional golfer.

Expected to be in a cast for some weeks, Dyson is now eyeing a successful return to action next year - with tournaments at the start of the new European Tour campaign in South Africa a potential launching pad.

Martin Brown, meanwhile, has missed the cut at the prestigious Brabazon Trophy.

The eight time York Amateur champion, who plays out of Pike Hills GC, shot rounds of 76 and 80 at Hollinwell Golf Club, in Nottinghamshire, to leave him at 12-over-par and well adrift of the cut mark.
