DAVID LLOYD continued their twin-pronged attack on the Tyke Petroleum Men’s League - topping both divisions one and five - after double victories over Starbeck.

In the latter, David Lloyd 2 were boosted by Trevor Watson and championship winning captain Andy Holmes for the home tie against Starbeck 2.

All three Lloyd 2 pairs were unbeatable with 2½ points each.

The compromised David Lloyd first team were spared defeat by a solid 3-28 from Jan Dyl and Ben Orton at Starbeck firsts, but four points dropped against the promoted play-off outfit could prove critical later in the campaign.

York’s only success in their triple-header against Wigginton came in the division five match where their thirds proved too consistent for Wigginton 3 and all three York pairs won 21 games.

Mal Pringle and Stuart Langley ended unbeaten with 2½ points.

Wigginton consoled themselves as their second team beat York 2 by the same margin, topped by Matt Waudby and Jason Whiting’s 2½-24.

In the top tier tie, Ben Walker and Angus Bradshaw won the first rubber 12-0 for Wigginton firsts - a margin which York 1 couldn’t make up in a keenly fought contest, which Wigginton squeaked 20-16.

Poppleton enjoyed a fine day. Nick Turnbull and Matt Everatt’s 3-28 helped take ten points at home to Dunnington.

Poppleton 2 lost only one rubber at Wetherby, with ten and a half points taking them to the top of division three, while Poppleton 3 trounced third-placed Wilberfoss 2 to go ten points clear in division six.

Dad Andy Greenall and son Robbie, with 2½-22, were one of three unbeaten Popp 3 pairs.

Fulford’s Govind Baker and Arran Tate were the joint top-guns this week, with 3-30 at Sherburn. Max and Zac Los also enjoyed a walk in the park, with 3-27, as Sutton-on–Derwent took big points off Rowntree Park 2, to apply pressure at the top of division three.

Bishopthorpe captain James Parker notched 3-29 with Jamie Winspear as the club made hay in a 72-36 spree at home to Bubwith 2. Boston Spa also squeezed 10½ points from an economical 65-43 win at home to Rufforth.

Pete Smith and Paul Kaye bagged a maximum for Spa from just 22 games won. The two victors now enjoy a 20-point lead in division four.

Copmanthorpe 2 were given the Latcham & Hicks treatment, as Heworth’s young stars Nick and Ollie tore into the division 8 champions with 3-29. It was a performance that kept up the pressure on division five leaders David Lloyd 2.

Alne & Tollerton's trophy hopes in division eight were blown off course by northern village rivals Strensall.

Without Dave Pearson’s steady hand for A&T, Ryan Gale’s marauders pillaged ten points off the early leaders, as Jack Cameron and John Long plundered 3-25.

Racquets 2 pulled to within two points after a barrage of Alne & Tollerton 2.

Steve Walker and David Latimer bagged the day’s joint top-score of 3-30 for New Earswick, at home to Bishopthorpe 2. A hugely close match saw Harlow 2’s early lead surpassed at the last as Dunnington 2 took 20 games in the final round to claim a 55-53 nail-biter.

Riccall romped to a ten-point 69-39 win in the only division seven match, against Wigginton 4 at Strensall. Andrew Dunning and Alex Trembath led the celebrations with 3-25.
