NORTH Yorkshire golf star Simon Dyson is to undergo career-saving surgery.

The 37-year-old, who has been plagued most of this year by a crippling tendon injury, which re-surfaced less than two rounds into the Spanish Open in his comeback after almost two months rest, has agreed with a specialist’s diagnosis to undergo an operation.

After his Spanish low, the Malton & Norton Golf Club ace sought out a medical consultation, which included an MRI scan.

The advice was to either go instantly for surgery or have a cortisone injection to try to get him through the next raft of European Tour events, starting with the Dubai Duty Free Irish Open, which gets under way today.

Dyson opted for the injection which will give him the chance to play at Royal County Down GC, where he tees off at 9.10am in the company of Raphael Jacquelin and Alvaro Quiros.

The cortisone injection needs to clear before any surgery, and Dyson said on social media: “I am having the op in four week’s time.”

Adding that he expected to be out for a long time, he said he hoped “to come back stronger than ever”.
