SIMON DYSON is facing the most agonising decision of his 15-year career after injury flared again in his return to competitive action.

The 38-year-old could now be sidelined from golf for close on a year if his worst fears are realised and he has to undergo major surgery.

After almost six weeks away nursing a damaged tendon in his wrist, Dyson returned to the Spanish Open yesterday.

But 15 holes into the first round at the Real Club de Golf El Prat course near Barcelona and, with him placed in the top 20 on a one-under-par score, the injury re-surfaced.

He posted a double bogey six and a bogey in successive holes and, while he finished his round way down the field at two-over-par, Dyson was more crestfallen at the prospect of having to have a major operation on the wrist, which could prompt as much as a year out.

Dyson will make a late decision on whether to continue in today’s second round. But he has been booked in to see a specialist in England on Monday when he will have an MRI scan.
