ACOMB Sports Club lifted the York White Rose Darts League’s new Carole McLeod Trophy.

The trophy was contested in memory of Carole McLeod, who was a long-time member of the league, playing for Acomb Sports Club and serving on the league committee as secretary and chairperson.

Carole died on April 20, 2014, and the league staged a charity fundraising night in her honour, with teams playing for the trophy which was donated by New York WMC in Blossom Street.

Her husband, Colin, presented the trophy to the winning team, which included Jill Clapham, Barbara O’Donnell, Julie Bond, Astrid Tute, Elsie Blackburn and Anne Bryszkiewski.

A total of £401, raised from a raffle, bingo and donations, was given to the York Hospital cancer care unit.

Acomb Bowls Club’s lone winner against Clarence Club in division two was Lorraine Parker.

Hosts Derwent Arms won the four-hand tie and also the first pairs against Lord Collingwood, who took the next pairs through Jo Palmer and Yvonne Wrist.

Derwent won the next two games before Jo Palmer pulled one back only for Sue King to make it five points for Derwent.

Flag and Whistle’s only success at home to New York was the axis of Pat Drake and Carol Gilbert.
