FULFORDGATE were crowned division one champions in the York John Smith’s Ladies Darts League after a 6-3 win against visitors Marcia ‘A’.

Marcia’s Babs Harrison won the opening leg and, although Muriel Britton levelled, Clair Cooper edged the Bishopthorpe side in front again.

Dawn Exton, Anne Bass and Jill Reed won to send Gate into the pairs with a commanding 4-2 advantage.

Bass and Exton sealed match points before mother and daughter Muriel and Michelle Britton secured the championship courtesy of a better win ratio as they finished level on points with Tramways ‘B’.

Second-placed Tramways closed their season with a 7-2 result against visitors Edinburgh.

Ways had the match won within the singles, with Jayne Janes, Sue Turpin, Tracey and Natalie Farmeary and Bev Harton sealing match points.

Julie Stables was Edinburgh’s singles success and she partnered Amanda Bevan to double their tally.

Castle Howard Ox ‘B’ were tied 3-3 with visitors Severus ‘B’ entering the pairs. Sandra Bruce and Sue Tate edged the home team in front, then Wendy Shortle and Flossy Crampton sealed victory.

Carole Layne, with some top scoring, and captain Sue Lowery were Tramways ‘A’s inspiration as they took home a 6-3 result from Marcia ‘B’, whose Joan Hunter won both her games.

Davina Shannon and Sue Clark scored for home team Severus ‘A’ against Castle Howard Ox ‘A’.

Wendy Sullivan, Linda Staveley, Nix Johnson and Nella Majsterek then thought they had put Ox in a good position, but the home side polished off all the pairs. Shannon and Sue Richardson snatched victory in the final leg.

Jubilee ‘A’ are division two champions after a near-perfect score against visitors Shoulder, whose Doreen Johnstone won the opening game. Captain Heather Bulmer rallied her Jubilee troops and they took the remaining games.

Acomb secured second place, Kate Rankeillor setting them up before a blip came via Jubilee ‘B’s Tracey Scurr, Catherine Johns and Rosie Hattee. Rose Gray started Acomb’s stampede as they cleared up the remaining legs.

Bootham, who had led the division in the first half of the season, had to settle for third spot as Sonja Love and Jackie Young snatched victory for Green Tree in the deciding game.

Leeman had final pair captain Debbie Witts and Janet Nelson snatching victory at Clifton, whose captain Cris Turgoose gamed in 25 darts in her singles as the teams entered the pairs all-square.

Margaret Yeomans and Charlotte Witts edged the visitors in front before Alice Turgoose and Freda Harman set up the decider.

The semi-finals night will be at Tramways WMC tonight, at 8.15pm
